2026 resolutions

Looking back on some previous years I went a bit mental and didn’t last more than a month before settling into old habits, so I’ve kept it to just three main goals for myself this year.
1. No FOMO 💸
I have a real bad habit of spending money on things. This year I want to make the most of the things I already have and instead of buying everything I want as soon as I start to get hyped for it, I am going to make a “FOMO” list and add the items to that instead.
This will save me money, which is the primary objective of my year. I can use my time to go through the backlog of treasures I have procured, and hopefully get some enjoyment from them instead of having them gather dust on shelves or in boxes.
At the end of the year I will revisit the FOMO list and see if there’s anything I missed out on that I really really want, and pick those things up early in 2027.
There will, of course, be some rare exceptions - GTA VI and Duskbloods come to mind, as well as a few books I’ve already preordered - but it’s fine to afford myself a few new shiny things as long as I don’t let my spending get out of hand.
2. 二度目 (Futatabime) 🇯🇵
Last time I went to Japan I’d got myself into daily Duolingo practise, but it didn’t really help that much in real life. This time I’d like to find a good alternative to learn everyday phrases a traveller needs. While Tokyo is very friendly to western travellers, I would like to show more respect to it’s inhabitants by being able to reel off a bit more than just “ohayo gozaimasu” and “daijobu desu”.
I’ll aim to share more of my trip this time too, last time I posted a few photos each day on X, but it didn’t really do justice to what an amazing time I had. With any luck I’ll have this website looking better so I can upload photo galleries and I’ll work on getting some basic video editing down so I can post things on YouTube too. We don’t go til October, so plenty of time to get the webmastering solved.
Also, I need to work on my fitness regime prior to travelling. Last time we did so much walking I was absolutely knackered by the end of the trip, my knees were just not prepared for that many steps! If I can shed some of this winter weight and keep up the cardio all the way through the year, I should be in a good place physically to enjoy Nippon round two.
3. Nice to see ya… 📺
Last year I had a great time streaming games like Nightreign and Death Stranding 2, but I didn’t really commit to a proper schedule, just logging on ad-hoc whenever the mood took me. As a viewer of several Twitch channels, I know how useful it is to know when someone you want to watch will come online.
This year I’ll be dedicating a specific day for streaming, which will hopefully keep me more regular. With a huge backlog to get through, as well as a bunch of non-gaming things to do - building LEGO/Gundam kits, Pokemon/Magic card openings, etc - I should have enough content to provide a year of weekly entertainment. Let’s see how well I stick to this one.
First scheduled stream will be on Friday 16th January at 8pm GMT where I’ll be starting my first ever playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077. Hope to see you there! Check out my channel schedule to stay up to date with future streams.
